Happy Spring! I’m off to North Carolina in the morning! I’ll be attending the inaugural Robert C. Millikan Epidemiology Seminar and the Millikan Cup. To quote Professor and Department Chair of Epidemiology Andrew Olshan, “This is an important annual tribute to Bob and his life’s work and a very useful lecture for our students and faculty.”
Robert C. Millikan Cancer Epidemiology Seminar
Reproductive Factors in Relation to ER- Breast Cancer in African American Women: Results from the Black Women’s Health Study and the AMBER Consortium
Julie R. Palmer, ScD
Professor of Epidemiology
Slone Epidemiology Center at Boston University
Date: Friday, March 21
Time: 1:00
Location: 2301 McGavran-Greenberg Hall
It will be great to have a chance to hear Julie Palmer speak about this important project. I will also meet with two of Bob’s doctoral students to collaborate on the Science movement of Millikan Symphony. I can’t wait to hear what ideas they have! Science and music share many structural elements. I look forward to discovering how cancer research can make its way into the music.
On Saturday the Millikan Cup takes place at the crack of dawn on Lake Michie. UNC Head Coach, Micah Boyd, wants this to be an important annual race for the North Carolina rowing club schools. This year the schools participating are Duke, UNC, High Point, Wake Forest, Davidson, and NC State. There are many different races but the winner of the V8 takes home the Millikan Cup. You can bet I’ll be out in the launch filming! I will pay special attention to the arc of the 2000 meter race for the Rowing movement of Millikan Symphony, and will be asking Micah lots of questions while we are out on the water. Look for pictures and videos in the days ahead!
