Pictures from Millikan Cup 2014, March 22nd, Jordan Lake, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. It was a spectacularly beautiful morning for a regatta. Millikan Cup is the first race of the season. Micah Boyd, Head Varsity Coach, wants this to be an important annual race for North Carolina rowing club schools. This year the schools participating were Duke, UNC, High Point, Wake Forest, Davidson, and NC State. There are many different races but the winner of the Varsity 8 takes home the Millikan Cup. I interviewed Micah about the different phases and specific challenges of the 2000-meter race, and had the opportunity to speak with the rowers as well. Everyone agreed that the most difficult part of the race was the grueling third 500!
This weekend, May 24-25, is the biggest race of the season, the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) Championships in Gainesville, Georgia. I'll be there via the livestream. Go Tar Heels! http://www.americancollegiaterowing.com/ |
